Movie Maker and .AVI files

When using Movie Maker and I try to import an .AVI file - the program
crashes. It also used to crash when I was using RC2. I have tried
different .AVI files with same problem - I get box that says there is a
problem and it's looking for a solution with either Debug or Close program
as my only 2 options.

Are you sure you have all the required codecs?

Nero installs all the necessary codecs that enable Windows Media Player and
Nero Showtime to work as well as all the burn functionaltiy.

why would nero install a video codec that allows you to watch an avi file?
if you doubleclick the video, does it play in wmp?

Nope - both RC2 and RTM kicked back an error saying codecs are missing or
not found...

I have the same problem with Vista RTM, the files do play in WMP. I
downloaded Windows Media Encoder to see if that could handle it, it also
crashes!
