i have recently experienced the following mouse-related
problems that i have no idea how to fix:

1. clicking on a desktop icon (or really any file and
such) once opens the program, instead of a double click.
double clicking tends to open the program twice. this
only occurs occassionally but regularly.

2. when highlighting text (in order to copy it) it
becomes unhighlighted when the left mouse button is
released. again, this only occurs occassionally but
regularly.

I have checked all of the mouse settings, and everything
looks to be a-ok. This is a problem that comes and goes,
typically 5 minutes on, 5 minutes off. The only recent
upgrades to my system has been a RAM upgrade, but the
problem occurred beforehand as well.

Any help will be most appreciated!
Thanks!!

In explorer: tools, folder options, general tab, uncheck: single click and
check double click.

I think when you go back to double click as it seems your used to(single
click option has been around since win98) the highlight problem will go away
as highlighting is a bit different with single click on.

This would probably be the solution if it was a constant
problem, but it is intermittant one. It works the way it
should some times, but other times, it behaves the way i
described earlier.

Thanks for your help though!

I have also found that somtimes users think their clicking a shortcut to
oprn it, but actually they move the mouse as they click, thus canceling the
click and sometimes moving the shortcut. Make sure your clicks are exact and
tweak your mouse sensitivity settings if needed.

I've been a computer user for over 15 years. I'm pretty
confident this problem is not related to user error.

Is the mouse button physically starting to go bad. I've seen this happen
alot too. Maybe try a different mouse to confirm or rule out a bad mouse
button.
