My mouse is not scrolling as it should. I am not sure if win xp is
causing it or not. I bought a new mouse pad and it helps some, but
not as it should.

I got the mouse when I bought the computer system, an ibm altvista.

the mouse is black colour, with left and right buttons for clicking
plus a middle small blue button for scrolling web pages. that part is
hard to control, the pages just fly by when I use it.

It just says IBM on the mouse nothing else. maybe I need a new one...

thanks

Have you tried opening up the bottom of the mouse? Remove the roller ball and
rinse it off. Dry it off. With an eraser or something pointy, remove any
buildup on the side rollers (this is what makes the pointer move on the
screen). Make sure as the clean each roller, you turn them so you get the
entire roller. This buildup is due to dust collecting over time.

:

Clean the little rollers by scraping the dirt off with your
fingernail, and blowing it out of the hole (with your eyes
closed). Don't use anything abrasive or you'll damage the rollers.
Your fingernail won't do any damage.

My solution to this same problem with slipping mouse was to go to control
panel, then select mouse. I don't remember the exact steps, but look under
property and advanced tab or something and uncheck the fast initialization
box. While you're at it, click the question mark at the top right hand side
of the window and click again at the fast initialization box. It should
describe your problem as it did mine. Good luck !
