mouse settings

Ever since our IT guys installed XP Pro on my computer, I
have to reset my mouse every time I boot up. I use the
mouse left handed, and I'm getting really tired of having
to reverse the buttons every time I start the computer.
Also, I can no longer change the speed at which the pointer
moves across the screen. My home computer (inherited from
my dad) does the same thing, but it's running XP Home with
a different mouse. Does anyone know of a solution to my
problem? Do I have to install a new driver for the mouse?

There is no, repeat NO, solution to your problem. If you do a Google search
you will find many posts with the same problems.

Several MVPs have offered solutions, but NONE work.

I just put the mouse control on the desktop and re-do the settings every
boot.

Best,

What do you mean you can't change the speed. How can't you change it.

The value is written to the registry immediately. Therefore there is no reason for this to happen. Are you using the standard windows way of changing. Is your profile being saved. Does something else change it back?

Type regedit in Start Run and look here
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse
SwapMouseButtons should change between 0 and 1 as yoiu change it in control panel (press F5 in regedit to refresh the view). A program can change it without changing the registry (till next boot).

Speed is also specified here with sensitivity, mouse speed, mousethreshold1 and mousethreshold2 all specifing the speed.
