Mouse problems

Hi there,

I've had this problem for over a year now but it has only now got to the
point where it frustrates me enough to try fix. About every 1 in 3 times
that I turn on or restart my computer the mouse does not work (sometimes
more - this morning i had to restart 4 times before it worked), this has
been the case since I bought the computer brand new and it doesnt seem to be
the drivers - ive tried all the intellimouse drivers.. I originally thought
it may be the ps/2 plug connection but then my friend happened to bring it
up that he had the same problem on his brand spanking new machine so i
thought that maybe it was a known problem and there is a fix for it...
I'm using an intellimouse web ball mouse 1.0A

Thanks.

So this is a ps/2 mouse? Try a usb mouse instead. Or perhaps you have
some startup program that is interfering with the mouse. I've never had
the problem you and your friend describe on any of my machines or on
clients. I'm not doubting you - however, this isn't necessarily a
Windows XP issue. Try doing some deductive troubleshooting with startup
programs using msconfig and your mouse. Do one thing at a time,
methodically.

So this is a ps/2 mouse?

Any chance the mouse is connected to the computer with an adapter to
change the plug from serial to USB? I've seen exactly that problem
with that configuration.

IF so, get a real USB mouse. You will not be sorry.
