Mouse pointer disappears over text

When I run my mouse over text in IE 7 or Word 2003, the pointer should change
to the I-shaped text-selection cursor. However, it simply disappears
altogether. I'm guessing that it's a Vista issue, since it occurs in
text-boxes (like this one) as well as most programs. This makes it almost
impossible to edit text or select text. The option to have the mouse cursor
disappear when typing is turned off.

Try changing the pointer Scheme in the Mouse Control Panel, on the Pointers
tab, and then try changing back again, if you want.

It looks like the I-shaped cursor is either missing or not configured in
your current Scheme.

Yes, that solved it - I'd tried two or three schemes - inverted and
magnified as well as Aero, and the standard scheme finally did the trick.
Thanks!

Wow, I had given up! I had the exact same problem. I guess Vista has a bug
where the default "text select" cursor is invisible or doesn't load
correctly. All I did was change it to a different one and voila, it's no
longer invisible.

I have to say this is a Vista problem as I have a brand new Sony Vaio with
Vista pre-loaded and this has been a problem since I got this computer at
best buy a month ago.
