Mouse not there on start up..

Sometimes, about 25% of the time I start my machine (Win2K), my mouse icon is
not on the desktop. I have to restart (press little restart button) to get it
to come up.
Kind of a quirky problem, but bothersome.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check Event Viewer and Device Manager for errors and or non-starting
devices.
