Mouse/Keyboard Freezes in XP

Hello all. Hope someone can help me with this one.

I've just built a brand new computer, new hardware and everything on
Saturday afternoon.

The specs I've got listed below, but it seems to be having some trouble.

THE PROBLEM

While running Windows XP Professional (SP1), my mouse has a tendency to
freeze. This will last anywhere from a few seconds to up to several
minutes. Other times I have to reboot the computer until I can get any
action. Sometimes the mouse is able to move but cannot click on anything,
other times its completely frozen or alternates between the two. Once in
a while the keyboard seems to lock up as well and I cannot hit CTRL-ALT-
DEL. It does not matter which, if any, applications are running. For the
most part, I end up having to reboot the computer to do anything.

SPECS

Processor-AMD Athlon XP 2800+
Motherboard-ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
Sound Card-Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI
Video Card-ASUS nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video Card 128MB DDR, 128 Bit,
VI/TVI-Out 8xAGP Memory-Crucial 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-3200 x2
Storage-Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive (x2 - set up in RAID 0 or 1 -
which ever one combines them into one massive single drive, can't
remember)
Optical Drive-Lite-On Black 52x32x52 CD-RW Drive
Floppy Drive-Samsung 1.44 MB 3.5 Floppy Disk Drive
Linksys Wireless-B NIC

STEPS I'VE TAKEN SO FAR

1 - Ran defrag. Hard drive was 31% fragmented but I've run it twice and
it seems to be fixed.

2 - Ran Spybot S&D. Found nothing significant.

3 - My video drivers are the latest from nVidia's website.

4 - My motherboard BIOS is the latest that is available from ASUS. It was
shipped that way so I did not install anything.

5 - I've got Service Pack 1 and as of 3/29, all the patches available.

6 - I've dropped the Hardware Acceleration down one notch to see if that
might fix something. It has not.

7- An Anti-Virus scan (Sophos Anti-Virus) does not find anything.

Strangely enough, this has never happened while I've been in a computer
game, such as Unreal Tournement 2004. I am *not* overclocking the system
in any way. The CPU temperature hangs around 40 to 41 degrees. Checking
Task Manager shows an average of 28 processes running.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
