Mouse Focus..

When I'm using Windows Explorer I have to click on a window to shift the
focus of the scroll button on my mouse to that window. On my old 98SE
all I had to do was move the mouse pointer to the window and the focus
followed. I didn't have to click to change the focus. I'm using a
Logitech mouse with the latest mouse driver.

Is there any setting to do this in XP?

Maybe, you are talking about the Single Click function. Click Start - Control
Panel - open Folder Options and set the option "Single click to open an item
(point to select)". This method will apply "point to focus" for each and
every object in windows not only for Windows Explorer.

Hope this is what you are looking for, let us know!

That didn't work at all. Let me try and explain it again.

In 98SE, as you move the cursor over different panes in Windows
Explorer, the pane takes focus so you can scroll that pane. In XP, I
have to click on the pane to give it focus and then I can scroll.

Neither of the two suggestons is doing what I want.

When I have Windows Explorer open, on the left side is Folders and on
the right side is the contents of the folder I have checked on the left
side.

If I use the scroll button on my mouse, it only scrolls the left side
unless I click on the right side but then it only scrolls on the right
side until I click back on something on the left side.

In 98SE, I didn't have to click on either side, the side where the mouse
cursor was is the side that would scroll.

I'm thinking I can't do this with XP?

TweakUi is just focusing the Windows not the contents of a Windows. Maybe, it
is not possible in Windows XP. Even the Single Click is not setting the
focus.
If you have Windows 98 installed then let me know if it is possible without
using Single Click or any other function. I will try it too on any Window 98
Machine.

I feel like I'm repeating myself here but I'm using 98SE and moving to
XP so I can tell you that in 98SE as I move my mouse over either the
left or the right pane in an open Windows Explorer window the focus
shifts to that pane and I can scroll without a click.

JD,

I think that the reason why many folks are ignoring your posts is
because it is obvious that in XP's Windows Explorer , the left-hand pane
is active as soon as the window first appears, hence you are able to
scroll without clicking it. The right-hand pane requires you to click
on it to make it to make it active before you can scroll. That's XP!
If you want it any different, I think you need advice from someone who
can alter XP's basic programming.

At least that's the way I see it. If I'm wrong, somebody will surely
let us know.

TweakUI will do what you're asking. Under the mouse setting in the
left
pane, click on X-Mouse. In the right pane, check the box for
"Activation
follows mouse".

Doesn't work in XP Pro, MD. Have you actually tried it in XP?

Joe..

I think you've hit the nail on the head. XP doesn't work the way 98SE
does when it comes to Windows Explorer. To scroll in the right pane one
must first click on the right pane. What a pain!
