Mouse / Cursor Issue

When I use my keyboard mouse (either the stick or touchpad) and open up
Excel, if I click on a cell in a speadsheet it won't "deselect" itself. If I
move around then it continues selecting/highlighting across other cells and I
can't use my mouse or keyboard for anything else within program. I have to go
to my task bar to close out the Excel program or Ctrl-Alt-Delete to stop the
program. From some other suggestions I've tried hitting F8 before and after
selecting a cell with the program but this doesn't work. And this always
happens whether I open up a blank spreadsheet, someone else's file, or a file
I've created myself. I have not had problems with a mouse that is connected
via the USB port in my laptop.

Sounds like you have clicklock selected - Start|Control Panel|Mouse|Select
click lock. You click once to start your process, eg to select a range from
A1:G20, you will move your cursor to A1 and click. Now, without holding in
your mouse button, you move to G20, and click again. You have selected
A1:G20. Unselect click lock, and you can select in the convential manner.
