mouse acting terrible

Hi Forum,

Just want to know what to do with a bad mouse. Its on my HP Notebook. (laptop)
The mouse has an attachment clinging to it, a tiny small rectangular box. It
shows up every so often. It fouls up my scrolling. Is it something to do with
the touchpad?
If anyone knows, I'll be glad to listen.

This sounds like an incorrect driver is being used. Try finding the correct
or updated driver at - http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

Most laptops have a touch pad driver application that will open up and let
you set/unset various "zones" on your touch pad surface. I suspect that one
or more of these zones are set and will do strange things to your scrolling
operations if you aren't aware of them.

My Sony VAIO has a small zone on the right of the touch pad for scrolling
up/down and a small zone across the bottom for scrolling side-to-side. I can
turn them on or off using the touch pad application.

Hi,

Thanks for responding and for the insight. I had gone in to my (mouse
properties) to make adjustments, but did not really help. What would you
suggest I should do?

I appreciate your response. Your answer to my mouse trouble is the only
logical answer I have heard of, so I'm going to take your advice and check it
out.

Well, it's not really the MOUSE "Properties" you need to go to. On most
laptops there is a small applet that (usually) puts an icon in your
notification area (the area with the clock/date). Double-clicking it will
produce a screen where you can set Properties of the touch pad (not the
"mouse"). My applet, for example, has several tabbed screens that allow such
settings as double-tapping, scroll zones, "sticky" zones, and help for
physically handicapped users.

You might also find this applet can be launched from the Start -> All
Programs -> Accessories OR simply a heading under All Programs for something
like "HP Help". I'd bet it is on your laptop but being unfamiliar with HP
laptops, I'd have to just search around for it.
