MotherBoard Question

Audio_scifi

I tryed to explain to the tech support that there was something wrong with
my Motherboard but they won't listen, so what are my options?
My PC won't recognize my SATA card so they told me to buy another one, and
since they didn't have any, I got one on-line, That one dosen't work either,
So I tryed to installed my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum card to see if it was the
PCI slots,,it took 30 mins to install, it usually take 5 mins. Now my system
is real unstable, and it takes 5 mins just to boot up, Is there something
wrong with the PCI slots in the board, or something else?
I removed all my PCI cards and my system seems to run ok, But I sure would
like my SATA drives back.
Thanks for any Ideas.

You gave a complete inventory of the computer, except the
make and model of the mobo.
A quick look at the specs don't say what mobo was used by
ABS, you didn't say about the mobo or the SATA card, but I
do see that you have listed a lot of devices for the mobo to
support, have you looked at the IRQ list and the BIOS to see
what you can see.

Do you need two types of RAM and two graphics cards with TV?

And 4 hard drives??

Everything is listed Jim if you know what your looking for, I just have a
Generic SATA card, But it works fine, I tryed it in my other PC, Since I
wrote this yesterday 2 of my back USB ports have quit working also, and as
far as the BIO's, I wouldn't know what to look for. I know the boot sequence
is correct, but thats is...

You have a lot of add-in cards and drives. I suspect that
you are having problems with IRQ assignment or sharing. And
you could have some damage to the motherboard, no way to
tell without troubleshooting.
Get EVEREST from www.lavalys.com and use it to scan your
system. You can also run an on-line scan from
www.pcpitstop.com
EVEREST will report on just about everything you need to
know about your computer, it reports data from motherboard
to software. You may not understand it all, but it will let
you answer some questions.

Put the cards back in one at a time, rebooting each time, to see if there's
a particular card that's the problem. Same with the slots. Try a known
working slot in each slot in sequence to see if a particular slot is having
a problem.

Take a look at the motherboard. There have been a lot of motherboards with
bad capacitors. They're easy to see; good ones are flat on top, bad one are
bulging and/or leaking.

As far as whether the PCI slots are bad or whether it's something else, it
doesn't really matter. If the board is bad, the board is bad. It's not like
you're going to be able to fix it, you just replace it.
