More than one item

I used to have a program that allowed me to select more than one item
on a page [both web and non-web pages (like e-mail messages)]. What is
that program?

Thank you,

The name of the program is Windows. Select one item, then hold down the Ctrl
button on your keyboard while selecting others.

Thanks...but:

That works in Microsoft Word but not in other applications [like MS Notepad,
to keep it in the Microsoft family]. It may not work in non-MS programs.

This may be an application the "designer" of Windows XP Pro did away with
'cause it was too handy. I think your suggestion worked Windows 95, 98, and
ME. Win. 2K I'm not sure of.

Thanks again,
