HTML Links in E-mail Messages

For years, I could click on a link in an e-mail message and be taken to the
corresponding web page in a few seconds. Recently, when I click on a link,
it takes ± 20 seconds to go from the e-mail message to the web page.

Why, and how can this be fixed?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

PS I have Windows XP Pro with SP 2.

= ... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.

= Then open a run command and type in:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll click [OK]
Reboot your computer and see how long the link will take to open.
Bear in mind if this website server is busy or the Hoops which the site go
through it can take a while.
Also run disk clean Up and Defrag, your system may be bloated a little bit
and there lots of running processes in the background, your Firewall can
contribute to this as some updates to the AV can make it act funny sometimes.
HTH.

What browser are you using and the version? Also, what e-mail client and
version? Is it from a web based e-mail client like hotmail? Have you
followed the tons of advice for setting cache size, cleaning caches,
clearing history, scanning for malware etc...? Is it only slow when you
click an HTML link in your e-mail or slow when clicking links in a webpage
also? Does the time it takes vary from say, clicking the link at 7:00 am,
or clicking the link at 5:00pm? Servers and ISP's can have their bad days
so try at different times for a few days. Some websites are not compatible
with some browsers and browser versions.

I have IE7 and sometimes I think I've gone back to dialup its so slow but
in reality that was with only a few webpages out of 30 or more I visited
today. Many websites are still in the process of updating compatibility for
IE7.
