Monitor won't stay in power saving mode

I have my monitor set to go into power saving mode after 1 minute of
inactivity. When I first start Windows, my monitor will usually turn off
after that time. However, after using Windows for a while and playing
some videos, my monitor will often not turn off automatically. The weird
thing is that sometimes it will turn off and sometimes it won't at
seemingly random times. Someone once suggested that this might be
because of a problem with a wireless mouse. But I a using a corded USB
mouse. How can I get my monitor to always stay in power saving mode when
I want it.

If you're running games, it's a crap shoot whether such features will
continue to work or not; it depends on the games and what they do to/with
the system.

Does this always happen after playing games? If so, you should be able to
trak down the culprit by trial and error.

No, it doesn't happen when I'm playing games. It happens when I play
videos. It also happens randomly even during normal computer use (web
browsing, etc).

You are not on your own mate - I tried to get the information many moons ago.
Told to re-install the driver for my screen - that did not do the trick. I often
have to go and reset it in the Control Panel - looking forward to see what
answers you get.

I have tried just about everything I can think of to resolve this problem. I
am getting close to using one of my Microsoft incident support options that I
have paid for, but may some one out here know how to fix this issue. Here is
my case.

I have 50 Windows XP systems at my office all with SP2. 8 of my computers
will not go to power save when you log off of the machine. If you stay logged
into the machine the power save mode works great since I pushed out a GPO to
enforce the screen saver and I also used Energy Stars ADM as a GPO for the
power settings. So my big issue now is that I can not get the power save mode
to work under the default computer settings.

I have tried using the registry to set the Default User Key to use the
minimal power scheme. I tried replacing the default user profile. I tried a
bios update on two machines that were not going to power save mode and two
machines that were going to power save mode and now all four machines will
not go to power save mode. Which leads me to believe this is a bios issue.
But Compaq has not been able to tell me that it is. Just get restore disk
each time I report the incident.

Help!! What else can I do?
