Monitor Power Setting

My monitor power settings don't stick. Doing: Display Properties >Screen
Saver > Monitor Power>Turn of power after 10 minutes>Apply>OK>OK, the
monitor will turn off after 10 minutes nonuse -- until I reboot. Then the
setting seems to be gone and the monitor stays on despite nonuse, and I have
to reset it if I want the monitor to turn off automatically. Any help with
this problem would be appreciated. Sansid

Hmm that is odd. The power setting are stored in:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\POwerCfg
in the registry.

You might find that "key" (folder) in the registry, right-click it and go to
Permissions, and make sure that Adminstrators (or even your specific account)
has full control to modify those values.

I wouldn't recommend this, but if it was me I'd also mess around with
locking down permissions after I save the settings I want, so that anything
that tries to change it, fails. It's probably not a good idea to go setting
"deny write" permissions in your registry though.

Does your computer have any other type of power configuration program? I
know Sony and Toshiba are infamous for including their own power control
applets. If anything like that is present, consider disabling or
uninstalling it from Add/Remove, and then using just Widows' power control
panel. It's way out there, but just a thought.
