Monitor shuts down suddenly

Hi,
When I am in the middle of doing something, my monitor will just suddenly
shut down by it self (with a click sound), becoming black, then it will show
"Check Signal and Cables", and black again. When this happens, the monitor's
power indicator is still green, and the CPU's is red.
This is usually within the first 5-10 minutes after turning my PC on. I have
to press the reboot buton (for long) in the tower to turn it on again, as the
switch won't go. Usually, this happens once or sometimes twice only, then as
I continue using the PC, then it's going good. I've checked the cables and
all are fine.
My PC System is:
MS Windows XP Home Ed, V2002 SP2
AMD Athlon XP2000+ 1.67GHz, 256 MB RAM

I've scanned using NAV Pro 2004 but no virus found.

Is it just the Monitor shutting down? Or could it be the CPU itself shutting
down?
Can a Good Samaritan help me please what to do?

Thank you very much.

The only thing 'talking' to the monitor is the video card, or built in
video. Better check it.
