Monitor noise?

I have noticed recently that my monitor at random times
starts emitting a very high pitched noise. This is a new
problem, and because not everyone can hear this high of a
pitch, I am not sure if it is a bad connection or if the
monitor is wearing out. It is a standard 17" desktop
monitor that is about 4.5 years old. No connection
changes or driver updates have been made since I began to
notice this noise.

It is driving me insane! It is happening right now!! Do I
fix something or chuck to old monitor????

It may be near a source of interference, try moving speakers etc away if any
are near.

It may also be that the monitor is on its way out, but 4.5 years is not that
old.

As John said, it could be interference. You can sometimes get this if the
refresh rate is too high. But, most likely, the vertical circuit(s) of the
monitor are acting up. One word: eBay!

When my monitor started doing that I ended up having to replace a couple
capacitors.

I'm trying to remember.. when did all of those defective caps hit the
market?

Dependinf on the age of the monitor, getting it repaired my be more
expensive than replacing it. The internal component are starting to fail.
