modify "insert picture" window

When inserting a picture into an application, windows opens a little window
that only shows the names of files.
To actually find the file, you have to click on the views, change to
details, shrink the name or size to see the date, then click on date to sort
to the most recent, properly sized, format, etc.

Is there any way to change this default to
1. Open wider
2. Open with "details" as the default

I don't think so, unless you can find a resident utility that will
resize the dialog for you whenever it opens.

The applications have some control over how Windows displays this
information, but I don't believe there is any general solution.

The window is not even resizable, that is why you have to change all the
column widths to find the date.

I can only talk about the general case, because you write "an
application" rather than specifics. Many applications - particularly
those from Microsoft - have user-resizeable dialogs.

What program are you using when you try to insert a picture?
That information would help a lot!!!
