"Open" window, need "Details" view as default.

How do I change the default setting in MSWord (and most other
applications opened in XP) so when I open a file, the "Open" window
that appears uses the "Details" view as the default, sorted by date?

Depending on the application, when I want to open a file, the "Open"
window that appears usually uses the "List" view as default. Then I
have to click on "Details" and then click on the "Modified" column to
sort by date. I want the "Open" window to appear with the "Details"
view sorted by date, instead of the "List" view sorted by name.

You can't change the default view. List and thumbnails in My Pics.
