default file/open window size in XP

In XP Pro sp3...can your modify the size of the opening window when you are
selecting a file from the open option in various windows programs ? For
instance...in Notepad for example click file/open and a second smaller
window opens with a directory/file selection. This window can be resized
via the icon/triangle in the lower right side corner.

But can you change the default size of the file/open window that opens to a
user specified default size...i.e...larger like double the size ?

Thanks, Tim

I use this primarily to change the default Open file display format from
List to Details. But you can also change the window size with it. Unless I
have misunderstood your request, this should do what you want.

Note that Windows Updates, or running SFC, might reset any changes you make,
in which case you have to make them again.

Try this:

Click on the File menu Open to open the Open dialogue box. Drag the lower
right corner to the size of your liking. Then close the box by holding the
Control key and clicking on the close button on the top right (red button
with white X).

Try opening the box again and see that the previous size is retained.
