Hello everyone! I use a standard modem, and when I leave the phone line plugged in and the phone rings it turns my computer on. Is there anyway to disable this so mu computer does not turn on when i forget to unplug my phoneline. I currently use Windows XP Home Edition

you most likely are having a problem with your BIOS. Go into your BIOS, and
in the startup/boot/power options, you should be able to find a setting for
"wake on modem ring" just disable that setting, and you should be fine

Start --> Run --> Cmd

Type devmgmt.msc

Click on Modems
Right click the modem that your telephone line is
connnected --> Properties

Look at all the options on all the different tabs, if
any, and see if there is a check box for something
like "Allow this device to bring you computer out of
standby". If so, make sure it is NOT checked and OK out
from there.

Actually, the problem is not in Windows but in the BIOS settings. Go
into your BIOS and disable any Wake On Lan type of settings. The
correct key press to get into the BIOS depends on your particular
motherboard. When you start the machine, there should be a message at
the bottom of the screen saying something like, "Press DEL to enter
Setup", or read the manual that came with your computer.

Did your modem come with any monitoring/answering software installed? If
so, that software could be doing the wakeup that you are experiencing.

Go into BIOS settings and look for something like "Wake on Ring" and
disable it.
