Modem not getting a dial tone

For somereason all of a sudden the modem in my computer fails to detect a
dial tone when i

atempt to connect. I have tried switching modems, and even disabling the
"wait for dial

tone" on the modem properties. But it does not help. When i Query the modem
settings, it

talks to the modem perfectly well. I have installed and unistalled it many
times but it does

not help. I unplugged the phone line from the computer and plugged it into a
diffrent

copmuter and that does connect properly. Also i plugged the phone line into
the computer and

then plugged a phone into the phone jack of the modem, and picked up the
phone, the phone

had a dial tone, but the modem still wouldnt connect. Any help would be most
appreciative.

Thank You.

Check the physical connection to the modem at its input
jack. Look closely and make sure it's in the line jack, when
coming from the wall.

Then try dialing. If you still dont get a tone, try
replacing the line cord. The monitor the connection by
listening to the session on the house phone. If the modem
connects while using the phone to listen, the modem could be
faulty in it's dialtone detector. Thats a common error or
hardware fault - and PCI modems are cheap.

Have you tried a different PCI slot?

All the best,

I tried a diffrent modem, I tried a diffrent PCI slot. Wheni plug the same
exact phoneline into a diffrent computer it does work. The only thing that
has changed before and after the problem is that I had put in a new PCI
sound card, so after the problem started, I took it out, but it still
doesnt help.

thank you

Just out of curiosity, have you tried pluging the cord into the modem's
other jack?
