Modem Speaker Won't Turn Off

When I go > settings > control panel > phone and modem
options > modem tab > properties > modem > speaker volume
off: nothing changes and the modem still squacks when
dialing. Any help with this? Thanks

I had this problem long ago on another computer. If my
memory serves me it was solved by going to Phone and
Modem Options > Modems > Properties > Advanced and
entering ATM0 into the extra initialization box. Try it
out.

Under modem properties, go to the advanced tab. Put M0 in the box for
extra initialization commands (zero, not O). Okay your way out,
reboot. That should take care of the awful noise.

the box for extra initialization commands. (That's zero, not the
letter O.) Apply and okay your way out, reboot.
