Modem setup issues

I am unable to make the built in modem in my laptop (XP).
I am getting the "No dial tone" error
The device properties show the modem is working properly.
and the diagnostics (which queries modem) also OK. But
when I connect this straight to telephone jack and
initiate the connection it says after few seconds that
there is no dial tone. The telephone line tested by
connecting a phone and also to another desktop and it's
all okay. Why I am getting the "No dial tone" error?

Please try uninstalling and reinstalling modem from contrl pnl add/remove
hardware.
