installing dial up on a laptop that already has cable connect

I have installed a secondary dial up connection on my laptop which already
has a cable (set top box) connection for when I'm home . Kept getting "no
dial tone present",
so cleared the box in modem properties that says "wait for dial tone". Now I
get unable to connect to remote computer. Have run "query modem" in modem
diagnostics.Able to communicate with modem O.K. Have set dial up connection
to default connection.Still can't connect.Any ideas? Am running Windows XP
Home Edition. Also I have a home network set up

I also have the same problem and wish that someone out there could post a possible solution.

Notebook: Armada M-300
What happened: Modem (dial out) was working fine until sometime after connecting to in-house network, then, no more dial out capability. Modem query turns out fine. Analog dial tone is present, but notebook says there is none.

I even re-installed XP-Pro entirely! Problem still exists! Something that was supposed to configure automatically within XP Pro has done so incorrectly, and with the OS re-install, it appears that it may have been a hardware change/update/reconfig???

Someone out ther please help!!!
