Hi,
I have a Dll 4600C running XP Pro V2, with a SoftV92 data fax modem, the
problem I have is keeping the WinFax Pro 10.03 in touch witht he modem. I
keep getting an error message that another program may be using themodem and
to close the application. The probelm is I can't find any other program using
the fax modem. I'm on a cable internet, I've disaable thed fax program in XP.
Can you help me diagnose what is going on? I need to recieve about 75 faxes
daily, and the paperwork has become a nightmare for filing.
Thakns in advance for any help!

Do you happen to have RAS (Remote Access Service???) active? This normally
controls the modem for dial-up.

You probably have other problems as others suggest, however as Carey
suggests you had best get a hardware based modem. Symantec recommends a
hardware based modem as WinFax Pro 10.03 is unreliable with soft modems.
This also comes from personal experience with this very software. I
replaced my internal soft modem with a US Robotics Model 5686E external
controller based modem and never had a problem since. This is the Canadian
version however so the US version will likely have a different number as
well as an internal is available.

Thanks, based on my computer model, I'll need a slim version as the port is
only about 3" wide, Dell has a very small case, I think I read something
about needing a Low-Profile card. I'll check out your suggestion and see if I
can replace the card.
Thanks!
