MODEM PROBLEM

G

gagan

I had formatted ( unconditional ) my PC and installed
Windows XP Proffessional on it.
The modem driver was installed automatically by drivers
included in Win XP.
The problem is while connecting to the internet.
The modem gives dial tone sound and then you can hear the
number OF ISP
being dialled with THE DIALTONE STILL IN BACKGROUND (
wHICH SHOULD
NOT BE HEARD WHILE DIALLING).
So the dial tone persists all this time and even after
that. After a while
i hear a tone similar to the tone when a phone is engaged.
Then everything goes silent and no activity takes place.
I formatted it again and installed Win 98 and installed
modem driver from the
original CD and everything works fine.
I want to install Win XP as I find it better but modem is
giving the problems.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION IS :
PENTIUM III 1.7 Ghz.
INTEL MOTHERBOARD.
HP 56 MODEM
SAMSUNG 40 GB HDD.

You need to download a driver that supports your modem on XP. If it is the
Lucent V.92 modem or the internal PCI modem, HP offers the driver you need.
Otherwise, I would use google to look for a 3rd-party source.
