modem not available

I have windows XP. I have installed a modem and it is
located on com 3. Querying the modems gets a response. No
conflicts show in device manager. When I set up a dial up
network connection, under properties - connect using, it
says unavailable modem on com 1. I have deleted the palm
program, thinking it caused this problem. No change. I
have disabled com 1 in CMOS. I have deleted and
reinstalled dial up connection and it still says the
modem on com 1 is unavailable. Why doesn't it recognize
the modem that I have on com 3?

I don't have an answer, but I have a similar problem. I
recently upgraded from WIN98 to Windows XP. The modem is
on COM3 but the Ports in the device manager do not show a
CCom3, only Com1 and Com2. The log created by querying
the modem shows dialing the modem but it timed out waiting
for the modem to respond. Otherwise all of the other
interpreted responses are 'ok'. Interestingly I did
uninstall Windows XP, and with WIN98 was able to connect
thru dial up with the same modem. I would like to know if
you were able to resolve your issue.

Ron,

Did you find a solution to your problem? I am experiencing the same
problem. I am able to use the wizard to establish the connection but when it
makes the icon in the Network folder it says Modem Unavailable - Missing. In
checking the properties, the modem is on Com 4 but it says its unavailable on
Com 1. I queried the modem and that seems to be working. What do I need to
do to fix the problem?
