Modem disconnects after 6 or 7 mins

I have recently installed Windows XP on my machine at home
but now I have the problem where the modem always
disconnects after 6 or 7 mins.

I have tried looking in the modem connection settings and
properties but I can't find anything to point to where the
problem lies.

Does anyone have any ideas.

Did you update the modem drivers with ones specifically for XP? If not,
then you should do this. If you already did, then your modem might be
failing. You can get another internal pci modem for around $20 usd.
