Modem connection speed

I have several systems I am trying to link with remote access using phone
line and modems.

The systems can connect AOL at 52K+ but can not connect to the server at
more than 28.8K.

All the systems have new 56K modems. The modems are different brands.
The hardware settins for all the modems are set for max speed

1 system, the server is running XP Pro. the other 2 are running XP Home


Any ideas to increase the speed with remote access?

A lot of times the speed depends on the phone line that you are dialing in
on.

A line with low signal will get low speeds, your home might get high
connection, but the office might not, The two computers need to connect at
the same speed.

It sounds like the remote server lines are only going to handle 28k.

Both locations can connet to AOL at 52K+ but calling each other it is 28.8K.
like it is running at half speed.

You won't ever get better than, I think, 33.6.

There's quite a bit of misinformation about this out there on the web, but
56K modems only connect at 53K when the host is an ISDN line--i.e. to your
ISP. They aren't capable of doing 56 (or 53)K between pairs of modems, even
with excellent analog lines.

I hope you will find 28.8 quite usable--turn off all the experience
checkboxes except bitmap caching.

I use RD over analog connections occasionally, mostly for short network
admin work--when a broadband connection is down and I need to dial in and
troubleshoot. I find it quite acceptable, but don't use it for very long.
