I have an HP Pavilion N5450 laptop with an internal ESS ES56CVM-PI Data Fax
Voice Modem. Running WinXP SP2.
The modem takes about 3 long minutes of handshaking while connecting. It's
connection speed is anywhere from 2.4-115.2 KBPS, but usually on the low
end.
It randomly disconnects all the time, and then it AUTOMATICALLY starts
dialing again. It will sometimes re-dial even though I have the connection
icon already in the task bar showing that it is already connected. (Tries to
connect even though it is already connected.)
I have cleaned temp files, caches, etc, until I am blue in the face.
Periodically, the whole computer will shut down to the blue screen of death.
After it reboots, error reporting says that the problem is most likely with
es56cvmp.sys driver. I have uninstalled the modem, and re-installed and the
same thing is going on.
The other thing is that the Modem-on-hold message will pop up and ask me if
I want to take the call, even though there is nobody calling in.
Is there something in my settings that is checked that would account for 1
or all of these problems?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks!
