Modem COM1, COM2 or COM3?

My V.92 modem isn't performing all of the functions it used to,ie. placing the modem on hold and letting you answer a call without disconnecting. I used to be able to place the caller on hold and then go right back to the internet, now I have to hang up, answer the call and then re-connect. I have an Agere/Lucent V.92 hooked up to COM3. Should this modem be on either COM1 or COM2 to be opperating properly, letting you use all of it's functions? If so how do you get it to COM1 or 2? Will the modem work betterif hooked up to a highere COM #
Thanks in advance

It shouldn't matter which COM port it's configured
for . . . I'd try removing it (from its menu on the
Programs menu if there is one, from Control Panel,
Add/Remove programs if there isn't one, or from the Phone
and Modem Options in Control Panel) and re-installing the
software . . . good luck !

Windows by default installs modems on Com3. You can change it but it will not
help the situation. You can always uninstall it, reboot your PC and reinstall it
with the installation CD.
Start/Control/Printers and other hardware/phone and modem options/modems tab
Advanced tab/troubleshoot

Hi Wayne,
Agere Systems lists it as an (OEM) modem. You might try looking for
updated drivers and applications for your modem at the web site of your
computers manufacturer. You might also try calling them for some one on one
help and support. As you do not say what Make and Model your PC is, I can't
really help much more.

I have a 3 Com modem. I do not know what the deal is, but my modem on hold
also worked for a short time only--then I had the same trouble you are
describing. Please let me know if you find a solution! I have no idea what
caused it to stop working.

For the record I'm running a Dell 8300 with Windows XP Pro. Does anyone know the 800# to Agere/Lucent Tech Support where a guy could talk to a human? Hopefully somebody who speaks English! The only thing different is I switched ISP's. Both support V.92 Modems but not all of a sudden not all the functions work no, hmmmm
Thanks

I would check with your new ISP to make sure they are supporting the
Modem-on-hold feature of v.92
