MMC8.8 TV Crash w/ AIW 9800 Pro

P

Paul Grunwald

I have an AIW 9800 Pro. I'm running under Win XP Pro. MMC 8.8, Cat 3.10.
After about 5 minutes of watching, it either takes down the whole system or
the app crashes leaving only audio playing.

Sound Card is a Soundblaster Audigy, I downloaded the latest drivers today
and installed. No effect.

Everything else seems to be running fine.

suggestions?

TIA,
P.

My only suggestion would be to go back to a version that works. I have to
run 8.2 with my Audigy. It is absolutely ridiculous that ATI would release a
version that doesnt work right with what is arguably the most popular add-in
sound card in the industry, but it appears thats exactly what they did.
Driver updates from Soundblaster did not fix my problems either.

I wasnt sure what fast write did so i did a search on Google. Turned up a
Tom's Hardware guide on BIOS tuning that claims a 10% performance increase
when AGP fast write is enabled in the BIOS. I would assume this is the same
functionality even though it is enabled in SMARTGART. A 10% performance hit
seems like a big deal considering the price paid for a 9800 pro you run in
your system. I guess you could turn it on and off but thats a pain.

Me

I had a very similar situation since a clean Win XP install on Saturday.

Seemed to have fixed it today by removing my SB drivers.
Then restart and let Windows detect the SB and do it's stuff.
Then install the latest TV WDM drivers over the top of the already installed
WDM drivers.
Followed by another restart and SB drivers install and another restart.

Before that lot the TV would crash to an error message, 16 colours and
just the sound playing every 15 mins or so. Been running for a few hours
since my "adjustments".
