mmc snap-in fails to initialize

When I open Manage My Computer I get an error Performance Logs and Alerts
interface snap-in fails to initialize. When I answer OK the mmc opens but no
Performance Logs and Alerts interface. When I try to add the snap-in in a
blank console, the Performance Logs and Alerts interface has no icon
suggesting it is missing.

How can I restore it?

Thanks Kelly but for some reason the actual XP Performance Logs and Alerts
command file was lost. I had to reload XP to fix.
