MMC Crashes When Adding Snap-Ins

G

Guest

When I attempt to add or remove snap-ins from my custom MMC, the MMC crashes.
And I can no longer see the Exchange System Manager for Exchange 2003 as an
available snap-in. Where as There is an entry for Exchange System but is
does not work.

I created a new MMC, and was able to add and remove snap-ins with no
problems, but if I attempt to add the Exchange System snap-in I get the
following error fromthe Microsoft Management Console:

Sanp-in Failed to Initialize
Exchange System
CLSID {1B600AEA-10BA-11D2-9F28-00C04FA37610}

Any ideas?

Error Message "Snap-in Failed to Initialize" When You Use Microsoft

On this KB, the failed to Initialize is generated after attempting to ADD a
snap-in that is listed, in my case it is generated after I attempt ot add the
Exchange System snap-in, it appears as a folder icon, in the Add Snap-in
List. Originally, I received the error when I went from Exchange 2000 System
Admin Tools and had un-install and re-install the Exchange 2003 System Admin
Tools; and subsequently, the old Exchange System that pointed to 2000, was in
my mmc, of which I did remove these to clear that error. I suspect that the
old Exchange 2000 Snap-in is still showing up as a valid entry. NOTE - the
Exchange 2003 snap is not there...where I would have expected it.

Double checked this to the KB above, everything looks fine, relates to
Jason's post also. This is what I have, pasted from my Path System Variable.

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem
You receive a “Cannot open <Snap-in Name>†error message when you try to

This is a Hotfix, and looks to be older than what SP2 would have already
fixed...does anyone know if it does not apply to SP2?

THanks.

Hi,

Thanks for posting!

Based on the current situation, I would like to provide you with the
following suggestions for your reference:

Step 1: Can the issue be reproduced in Safe Mode?
==========================================

1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On
a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems,
you can press the F8 key when you see the Boot Menu.

2. In "Windows Advanced Option Menu", use the arrow keys to select Safe
Mode, and then press ENTER.

3. If you are running other operating systems on the computer, click
Microsoft Windows on the list that is displayed and then press ENTER.

Step 2: Use SFC command to perform System File Check
========================================================
Note: This step may require the Windows installation CD.

1. Click Start (menu) -> Run (menu)
2. Type "CMD" (without quotation marks)
3. Type the below command

SFC /PURGECACHE
SFC /SCANONCE

The first command is used to purges the file cache and the second command
is used to scan all protected system files once at the next boot.

4. Restart your machine. System will scan all protected system files once
at the next boot.

I hope my information helps. If there is anything that is unclear, please
feel free to let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

Jason Tan

Okay, on Step 1, I booted with SafeMode, ran the Admin mmc that I created,
attempted to add the Exchange System Manager, however this option is not
present. I do have the same entry for Exchange System, but the entry appears
as a no-specific folder for its icon. Attempting to add it generates the
exact same error message as outlined at the beginning of this thread.

Went on to Step 2 - see below.

Performed Step 2, as you suggested. Took a while, but did not change a
thing, the behavior of the admin mmc that I created is still the same. Note
- I even tried creating a new mmc, but this too resulted in the same error.
The Exchange System entry is still present, and produces no good results.

Please advise...

Hi,

Thanks for prompt reply!

Based on the current situation, I have reviewed the previous post, you have
mentioned:

"I created a new MMC, and was able to add and remove snap-ins with no
problems, but if I attempt to add the Exchange System snap-in I get the
following error from the Microsoft Management Console:

Sanp-in Failed to Initialize
Exchange System
CLSID {1B600AEA-10BA-11D2-9F28-00C04FA37610}"

Based on the problem description, Please help me to confirm whether you may
experience any issue when adding other snap-ins except Exchange System
snap-in.

1. Please help me to take an error screen shot
=====================================

a. Press the Pr Scrn key once on the keyboard when the error message
appears.
b. Click Start, go to Run, enter MSPAINT in the open dialog box, and then
Click OK.
c. Use Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot to the canvas.
d. From the File menu, go to Save and save it as a JPG file.
e. Send the JPG file to me as an attachment.

2. Please help me to collect MPS_Setup report on the problematic machine.
=========================================================
Here are the steps:

Download the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE from the following link and then run this
tool to gather some information from the problematic computer:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE

To run this tool:

1. Double-click on the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE file.

I understand this process may take some time, however it will not have a
negative effect on the performance.

2. A CAB file will be generated in the
%systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab directory called
%COMPUTERNAME%_MPSReports.CAB. The CAB file will contain the reports
generated by the MPS Reporting Tool.

3. Send the CAB file to me as an attachment.

Note: please send the attachment to (e-mail address removed)

After receiving your system information file, I will perform further
investigation on it. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing
from you. If you have any questions or concerns related to this issue,
please let me know

Thanks & Regards,

Jason Tan
