MMC 7.2 takes forever to load

Bailey

Running Win2kPro 756 MB ram with ATI All-In-Wonder 128 AGP with
W2K_R128_5_13_01_3279 driver package and MMC 7.2.

I've been having a major problem about loading the Multimedia
Center. After I reboot the computer, it takes anywhere from three to
five minutes to get the TV tuner to begin playing. Most times if I
launch another application the ATI logo disappears and I get a grey
box that takes up the center of my screen.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both drivers and multimedia
center, but the problem persists.

I've also noticed lately that the icons on my screen will
occasionally flicker. Not the background image, just the icons, and
at random times.

Is it time to start shopping for a new card or are there some other
setup items I could check to diagnose the annoying problems.

TIA.

Did you do anything to the computer just before this started, like
installing software or changing/adding hardware (including ram)? Do you have
up to date antivirus? Do you run programs like Ad Aware &/or SpyBot Search
and Destroy. IOW do you know what else is running on your computer?

Odds of it being the AIW(card) is small. Odds of it being the O/S, MMC or
another app is great. Not saying you need to but it would make more sense to
reinstall the O/S than to change the AIW.

T Shadow;

No, there was no one moment where I can definitively say it was
working properly and now it is not.

And yes, I run AV scans nightly, scan downloads before installing,
and run both Ad-Aware and Spybot every other week. It's a very
closely watched system.

I've also noticed I can't run a program like Sound Recorder, Gold
Wave or Audacity when MMC is running. I get an error message that
tells me my audio hardware can't use the device or begin recording.

Thanks for your input.
