MM 2 hangs after import of .mpg

OK, I've read many posts & PapaJohn, I've done your check
list. But I cannot resolve this: I've used MM2 before
(made a 20 min pix/video presentation 2 months ago)
However now I've started a new project. It involves still
pix's, mp3 audio and .mpg. I've inserted my title, added
several still pix, but when I add an .mpg (maybe 10-15
sec. long) MM2 freezes. It will not play the clip. If I
save the file right after I add the .mpg then exit the
program, it will allow me to add another clip. But if I
try & play the entire clip it freezes. (The .mpg clips
are imported from another source - not using MM2 to
create the .mpg)

Hi Oliver,

Sounds like you're into the MPEG2 codec issue... see the Importing Source
Files > Video > MPEG2 page of www.papajohn.org

What I do with MPEG2 files that act up on me is, if you can import them into
either MM1 or MM2 (MM1 works better sometimes), then bring them in as a
single clip, put the clip on the timeline and save a movie... a high-end
quality WMV one is usually good enough considering the input. Then use the
WMV file as your source file for your projects.

The Internet Prelinger Archives is a good example. They offer downloads as
either Divx or MPEG2 and the higher quality ones are MPEG2.... I can make
the WMA files from each that I download, but as soon as I get confident
enough that the MPEG2 is working fine enough for editing in a project, it'll
act up and put me back to square one.... best to start off there in the
first place.

Thanks for your reply PapaJohn. They are MM1's. I think
that the problem may reside with a new video card I
installed last month. An NVIDIA G force. So this
weekend I'm going to remove it and see what happens.
