After upgrading ThinkPadT40 with intel wireless 2100 3b mini pci adapter from 2000 to XP Prof:
-wireless networking tab missing
-unable to view available wireless networks (although multiple available)
-zero configuration is started and automatic
-hotfix has been uninstalled

any suggestions? thanks...

go to services and start "wireless zero configuration".
tab will be there then.

thanks for the help, but the patch didn't fix the problem, and as i had stated before, i already started wireless zero configuration, so that's not the problem either .... any other suggestions short of reinstalling xp?

Some 3rd party crippleware (such as Intel's "adapter switch" utility) can cause this.
Also, provider of the wireless adapter (or driver) could deliberately force XP
to see it as non-wireless.
