Wireless connection Ok, but no internet...

My native language is Dutch, and so is my XP version. Slight
differences in language may appear when I do my story. Sorry for that.

MY CONFIGURATION
===============
I'm working at home, I have a wireless modem from SpeedTouch.
I'm working underWin XP Pro SP1.
My IBM Thinkpad laptop has an "Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI
Adapter".
On the icon tray, I see that the connection is excellent (the little
three-bar icon).

Next: on the properties of the Wireless Networkconnection there is a
tab for Wireless Networks. In the box "Available Networks" it shows my
SpeedTouch6F22E7, which is mine.
I can select and click Configure. On this dialog, i select
"WEP-compatible" and I enter the webkey (10 character code). The
networkverification (shared mode) is disabled. Also, the "key is
supplied automatically" is disabled.

In my IE browser, options, connectionstab, I don't have anything in the
"properties for connections". Under LAN-settings, I only select
"Settings for Internet Explorer copy automatically" (something like
that in English).

This is my work-laptop. Two other laptops, mine and my wife's are
working perfectly under the same settings. They are in the same room.

Finally, under the advanced tab in IE, I selected SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0 and
TLS 1.0.

MY PROBLEM
==========
I get the error message "The search page cannot be opened" in IE. I am
not able to open any internet site.

WHAT I CAN
=========
I can ping to any website address with reply: ping www.google.com
replies from 66.249.87.104 for example. I did reset my modem, even shut
down the power from it and plugged it back in.

QUESTION
========
What should I do to make this work? or: What to try next?

First, your English is hella better than many kidz who post here.

Now, when you get "The search page cannot be opened", can you ping that same
website, by name, and receive a reply at that time? If so, you can IMHO
successfully remove connectivity, and DNS reliability, from the list of
suspects.

I see two possible suspects, both regularly seen here:
# LSP / Winsock corruption.

Your MTU setting is a good one too.

Thanks Chuck for this quick reply. I'll give you some more diagnostics.
I suspect that it should be some 'simple' setting that I don't have
right. I'm not a crack in networking, protocols, IP's, routers and
such.

Opening http://www.nu.nl , Dutch news site, I get a popup "The search
page cannot be opened (-Red Cross-)" . If I ping www.nu.nl , I get a
reply from 62.69.168.11. BUT: if I ping to http://www.nu.nl (mind the
http:// prefix) , I get "Ping-request couldn't find host
http://www.nu.nl . Check name and try again".

Moreover, I have a problem using ipconfig. It did work only once, and
the second time I get a reply like (translated again):

"Windows IP-configuration There has been an internal error: a device
connected to the system, doesn't work Please contact Microsoft Product
Support Services fo support. Additional information: unknown code for
state of the device"

Using Msinfo32, I conclude that Winsock2 is NOT corrupt. All the
entries, and some more, are available under the Protocol section.

I've made some screenprints. You can check some settings and see for
yourself in

I very much appreciate your assistance.

No sweat. No problems shown there.

I still like the LSP / Winsock problem. Read my article please, and think about
it. And don't count on MSInfo32 as the only diagnostic - read thru this group,
and note when "netsh winsock reset catalog" was noted as the resolution, and
when one of the third party tools was so noted.

Your details, though, don't rule out the MTU issue either.
