Wireless Tab Missing after XP Upgrade

D

Dave Clark

I have just upgraded XP Home to XP Pro to add domain
compatibility to my machine. However, under the Wireless
Card properties I now get General, Authentication and
Advanced tabs, whereas before I had General, Wireless
Networks and Advanced tabs.
The wireless card is an internal Intel PRO/Wireless LAN
2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter - the one that comes with most
Centrino processors.
It appears my computer is treating my wireless card as
though it were a hard-wired network card.
Any thoughts?

Greetings Dave,

1. Click Start, Run, and type "services.msc" (without quotes) and press
ENTER.
2. Scroll to Wireless Zero Configuration, and double-click Wireless Zero
Configuration.
3. Under the General tab, change the Startup type to Automatic and then
click Start to start the service.

Eric,

I tried your suggestion - the only problem is the wireless zero configuration service is not included on my list of services. Any ideas? Do I have to reload the operating system (XP Professional)?

Any help is great!

Thanks,

Greetings Raym123,

You shouldn't have to reload the operating system. Make sure your wireless
network card supports this service. First, check with your vendor to see if
your network card has a version of a driver that supports Windows XP. You
might have to download the latest compatible drivers for it. If it does not
show in the list of Services, then follow these steps:

1. Run regedit and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC

2. Add a DWORD entry named "Start" and value "2".
