missing regedit

Hello all,

I am missing my regedit. I can't run it at all. I have used a "registry
cleaner", but thought i was just removing missing and incomplete dll's. Did
I remove the regedit file?

Help!!

What happens when you go to Start > Run > "Regedit.exe"?

do a drive search for :regedit

if you come up with regedit.exe you are OK

and if you enter the full path in "run" or click on it directly from within
Windows explorer...it should work

NOTE: If you also have regedit.com your machine is infected with a virus

delete regedit.com then run a full system scan with a good, recently
updated virsus checker

You never know, but I doubt it, Cathy. The world's worst designed
"registry cleaner" shouldn't touch Regedit, I would hope.

Go to "Start-Run" and type in: regedit. If it doesn't open, look in
your C:\i386 folder, where it usually lurks. No dice? It's not likely
it's "gone forever". Regedit is not "the registry" - it's a highly
glorified type of text editor to *read* (and edit) the registry, and
should be easily replaceable from backup files on your computer or OS
CD. Others here can tell you the quickest way to do that (meaning I
think there is a simpler way than having to do a CD "repair reinstall").
