Can you print? Is the icon in the printers folder? If you want the icon on your
desktop, open the printers folder, right-click the icon, drag it to the desktop and
click create shortcuts here.
Thanks Mary and anyone else who has tried to help. I have now resolved the problem. There was a fault in the connector of the cable that joined the printer and computer. I have bought a new cable and the fault has disappeared
