missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\system32\config\

I keep getting the following message when I try to restart my pc.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Ive got an original legit copy of XP home and when I insert it and press 'r'
it just restarts the pc again and the same message comes up.

Prior to this happening my pc kept on restarting after about 10-15mins
booting up. I done a chkdisk utility thing and which identified a corrupt
file. Soon after that was complete it restarted again and the error message
came up.

I cant go into safe mode or anything just into the bios.

The following KB article will help you restore the corrupted registry.

starting

If you have an OEM copy of windows XP then the following warning may apply
to you.

<quote from KB307545>

Warning Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your
computer has an OEM-installed operating system. The system hive on OEM
installations creates passwords and user accounts that did not exist
previously. If you use the procedure that is described in this article, you
may not be able to log back into the recovery console to restore the
original registry hives.
