don't know what the icon is !! Must be an option somewhere but I know not

Hello D,

I'd like to get some more information from you about your problem. But
first, please know that you can always find the latest version of Help
topics at the Windows Help and How-to page:

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/default.mspx

If possible, please attach a screenshot of what you are seeing. Also, are
you online when you see the red crosses, or are you offline? Any other
information you can supply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Here is the fix for the missing art icons:

1. Close the Help and Support window.
2. Start the Registry Editor by clicking Start, typing "regedit" (no
quotation marks), and pressing ENTER. (You need administrator privileges to
do this.)
3. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png.
4. Right-click the .png folder, point to New, and then click String value.
5. Add a new string named "Content Type" (without quotation marks).
6. Double-click the new Content Type string and set the Value data to
"image/png" (without quotation marks).
7. Close the Registry Editor, and then open Help and Support.

I hope this helps you with your problem.

I've just come across this. I've a brand new Vista Dell laptop. I powered
it and got the latest MS updates. The help worked before the updates. After
all the icons were gone. It didn't take too long to track this down, but why
oh why is this problem still being generated with new equipment and "mature"
OS ?

It is irritations like this that turn folk off MS.
