missing icons on desktop after clean install of XP

I just installed windows XP pro on a new harddisk. This went fine and is working fine. But all the standard icons that are useally on your desktop are not there. my computer, my documents, my network, alle these are not installed on my desktop. The only one there is the trashcan. Also the taskbar on the bottom is only half complete. It shows only start and the time

Does anybody know what´s going on here

Thanks.

Desktop Icons Disappeared
Right click on the Desktop, in the pop-up menu select Arrange Icons by … "Show
Desktop Icons".
If they are still missing, right click on the Desktop, choose...,
"Properties||Desktop||Customise Desktop".
You can add or remove icons such as My Computer, My Documents and My Network
Places.

To display your familiar Quick Launch toolbar:
Right-click an empty area on the taskbar, click Toolbars, and then click Quick
Launch.
To add items to your Quick Launch toolbar, click the icon for the program you
want to add, and drag it to the Quick Launch portion of the taskbar.
