missing icons and start bar

My son installed a screen saver on our xp system, it said
the video driver did not match what was needed for the
screen saver. We uninstalled the screen saver and
restarted the pc. Now no one has icons or a start bar. We
can put the user in standby mode and then come out of it
abd the icons are there, but then gone again the next
time you log on.
 
Try restoring the last known good configuration. In order to do that you
have to hit F8 right after the machine starts booting up - that will bring
up the boot menu and you can select the right option from there.
 
Thanks, I tried that and it didn't work either. I also
tried to do a repair of windows incase some files had
gotten corrupt. That didn't work either. Neither did
reinstalling the drivers.
 
Obtain the correct driver, start in the Safe Mode and install it from there.
