lost all icons

I did a clean boot in order to get me screen saver to work with a wireless
mouse as was described in this link

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;911895

After doing so, every icon was gone. I was able to bring a few back
manually with the right click to 'properties', but still the recycle bin is
gone, My Documents is gone and all the icons in the start menu. There is
however, an icon that is the white sheet with the generic rectangle with six
little color marks, for all the missing icons. Basically, the specific
graphic that went to the icon is gone.
I did a system restore to the Normal mode and still nothing came back.

Any ideas here?

I still haven't figured out how to get the screen saver with the wireless
mouse.

Thanks,
Izak
