Missing Icon in SysTray

Despite checking the box so the the Unplug-Eject icon appears in the systray,
no icon appears. I have already tried the tip from
http://www.jsiinc.com/subj/tip4500/rh4565.htm, but it doesn't solve the
problem. The file "C:\winnt\System32\RUNDLL32.EXE shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
hotplug.dll" will execute and the Remove/Eject Device window pops up but the
no USB devicees show up in the list. Any help would bve appreciated?

I've only seen it displayed when a mass storage device is involved. What type of
USB device are you concerned about?

Thanks for the treply.

Yes it is a mass storage device. I have three Flash Drives and I get the
same problem no matter which one I use.

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with the configuration of flash drives.

My system has a USB Iomega ZIP 100 drive. When I look in the Device Manager
under the USB controllers there is a listing for USB Mass Storage device. A
check of its properties shows a Location of USB ZIP 100.

Does your system show anything comparable? If so, try the following procedure
(this is my standard answer for those that have disabled the icon in the
Systray):

If you don't have the icon present in your Systray, here's a procedure to
restore it: (Note: This procedure is based on Windows 2K but should be similar
if not the same for Windows XP)

You'll have to use the Unplug/Eject Wizard to unplug a current device and at the
last prompt screen there'll be an option for the tray icon.

Start at System Properties (Winkey+Break or r-click My Computer, select
Properties). Select Hardware > Hardware Wizard > Uninstall/Unplug a device >
Unplug/Eject a device. Select one of your USB devices and follow the prompts.
The last screen will contain the option you're looking for. Unplug the device,
close System Properties, re-plug the device and the tray icon should reappear in
the Systray.
