Missing email accounts

I trying to configure Outlook 2003 to access my Cox.net accounts. I've
removed and re-installed and shut down and rebooted more times than I can
count but the accounts still don't show up in All Mail Folders. I followed
the instructions listed on Microsoft.com and Cox.net to the letter, I've ran
the Test Account Settings got Completed on all aspects, and have NEVER gotten
an error message, but the accounts still won't show up. Can anyone tell me
what am I doing wrong???

I'm not sure what you're looking for in 'all mail folders' - are you having
problems sending/receiving mail?

Adding an account doesn't create new folders. Adding a Cox account, if done
correctly, will cause the mail on the Cox server to show up in your existing
Inbox.

What do you mean the "acccounts" don't show up? Accounts can be seen in
Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. That's the only place they "show up". Perhaps
you mean the messages in your Cox mailbox don't show up in the Inbox. If
not, describe exactly how you created the account (without giving personal
details, of course) and exactly what happens when you click Send/Receive.

This is not a sending or receiving problem. The accounts never even show up.
I have 6 email accounts that I am trying to work with and keep separate.
When I set up my Hotmail and AOL accounts with Outlook, the username for each
account appears separately in the All Mail Folders under Personal Folders
(Outlook 2003). Each account has its own Inbox, Deleted Items, Sent Items,
Junk Email, etc. With Outlook I can access and send replies through each of
my email accounts in one interface without having to pull up different
Internet Explorer windows and signing in to each one independently.
According to the instructions on the Cox.net website (and on Microsoft.com)
I SHOULD be able to set up my Cox accounts with Outlook without a hitch.
There are no instructions that I could find of what to do if you pass the
Tests and the account still doesn't appear in the folder list after
completing the set up process.
I remember when I set up my AOL accounts with Outlook, it took 3 or 4 tries
before the first account showed up in the folder list, but after that, each
of the others appeared without a hitch. I didn't know what the problem was,
but it seemed to rectify itself so I didn't give it much thought at the time.
Now I'm getting rid of my AOL accounts and switching everything to Cox but
am well over 10 attempts on setting up just one of my Cox accounts and it
still doesn't show. In my Cox account I have multiple confirmation emails to
show the communication attempts were successful during each Test, but if I
can't see the account in my folder list, how am I supposed to access it to
check Unreads or Send New emails?
I was having a similar problem with Juno until I read in a forum somewhere
that Juno won't work with Outlook... which is why I opened the Hotmail
account. The Hotmail account showed up in the folder list on the first try.
Now I'm stuck wonder if I'm going to have to give up on the idea of using
Cox and just keep paying AOL ($$$) to keep my old accounts open so I can
still use Outlook.
Without trying to sound too grim, does that paint a clearer picture?

New folders were created when I added my AOL and Hotmail accounts and mail
from them does not go to the existing Inbox, but rather each folders
respective Inbox. Email only goes to my existing Inbox if I set up a Rule to
send it there.
What do you mean the "acccounts" don't show up? Accounts can be seen in
Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. That's the only place they "show up".

That is not the case with my Outlook. My AOL, Hotmail, and Juno accounts
each have their own folder that appears under Personal Folders. New emails
appear in each account folder's Inbox, separate from the Personal Folder's
Inbox. I did not do anything to make it this way, it's just the way it
appeared from when I first configured Outlook for email over a year ago.
If not, describe exactly how you created the account (without giving personal
details, of course) and exactly what happens when you click Send/Receive.

There is no clicking Send/Receive becasue I do not have the Cox account in
my folder list to select and then be able to create a new email from that
account. I can only send email and/or read email from that account by going
through Internet Explorer. Selecting the Personal Folder's Inbox generates
email from one of my AOL accounts (the default account), but otherwise, I'd
have to be able to select the account folder to send an email from that
account.

I repeat: This is not a sending or receiving problem other than the fact
that Outlook does not show my Cox account or allow me to see it's Inbox.
When I set up my Hotmail and AOL accounts with Outlook, the username for each
account appears separately in the All Mail Folders under Personal Folders.
Each account has its own Inbox, Deleted Items, Sent Items, Junk Email, etc.

The question here is: If there are no error messages and the Test completes
successfully (with confirmation emails and all), then why would the account
not appear after exiting the Tools/Email Accounts wizard like all the other
accounts I set up in the past?

Has anyone else ever seen or heard of this happening??

That's because they are not POP mail, they are http mail with pop access.
POP mail accounts do not utilise separate folders in Outlook.

That's correct. For HTTP accounts (Hotmail) and IMAP accounts (AOL), the
data stays on the server, so Outlook shows you the server's content.

And you can, but your Cox connection is a POP account and so uses the
default folders in Outlook Today. I'm not being mean, but the problem is
that you misunderstand how each account type works. "Accounts" = "folder
set" only for IMAP and HTTP accounts. For other account types (Exchange and
POP), all the accounts share the same set of folders: the Outlook Today
folders in your local PST.

Thats' because for HTTP and IMAP accounts, the mail stays on the server and
Outlook shows you the folders as present on the server. You're not seeing
an account.

I repeat, This is a problem of you not understanding how accounts and their

If you've set up the Cox account properly, they'll be in the delivery
location Inbox. That delivery location can be found at the bottom left of
Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next in the "Deliver new e-mail to the following
location" drop-down.

Does that mean if I try setting up the Cox account as an http it will appear
like the others? Is that an option?

if Cox mail IS http, then yes. If it's POP then no, you can't.

Leon ~ ~ ~ As I am a Cox customer, I can answer here = Cox techs. do NOT
support Outlook - they DO support Outlook Express - so you are on your own
getting help from wherever. The Microsoft Office Assistance site has a LOT
of helpful information but you have to dig for it. Cox Communications is NOT
a web-based email server. You have to use pop.west.cox.net (if you are in
So.Calif.) and POP/SMTP for your Cox Outlook email account. So, setting Cox
up as an HTTP account will NOT work - OK?!?! Good luck -- Meg
